Actonel Warnings
Always tell your doctor if you have allergies to Actonel or any
of its components especially with Risedronate, its active

Actonel and Pregnancy
No studies have been shown to produce conclusive evidence whether
or not Actonel can cause harm to the unborn. However, there have
been some reports on pregnant women taking Actonel that it can cause
decrease in weight, cleft palate, deformed bone structure, and some
cases of death of the fetus.
Actonel is not known whether it is passed into the breast milk of
humans but it has been found out that Actonel has the tendency to be
passed into the breast milk of animals. Therefore, use Actonel with
caution or consult your doctor first when you are planning to breast
feed while on Actonel medication.
If you have the following medical conditions, consult your doctor
first before deciding to go under Actonel therapy:
- Digestive system disorders such as difficulty in swallowing,
inflammation of esophagus, and other digestive or stomach ulcers.
- Kidney problems – the concentration and effects of Actonel may
be greatly increased if the patient has kidney problems due to
fact that medicines are slower in getting out of the patient’s
system.
Actonel Intake Guidelines
Actonel should be taken with a full glass of water of about 6-8
ounces on an empty stomach. The proper time for the intake of
Actonel must be 30 minutes before meals. Food and other beverages
may decrease the absorption of Actonel in the stomach.
After taking Actonel, never lie down for at least 30 minutes.
This action may help prevent the irritation of the passageway of the
medicine or the esophagus.
While on Actonel medication, it is recommended that you observe
proper diet with lots of Calcium and Vitamin for better performance
of the medicine.
Actonel Dosage
Different patients may require varying degrees of Actonel Dose.
However, generally a sample guide for dosage and administration is
provided below.
For the prevention and treatment of Post menopausal :
- 5 mg daily 30 minutes before the first morning meal
For Paget’s disease:
- 30 mg daily 30 minutes before the first morning meal for two
months.
Actonel Overdose
If symptoms of overdose are suspected with Actonel, immediately
consult a doctor.
Actonel Missed Dose
Since Actonel is a once-a-day medicine and to be taken when no
food has yet touched your stomach, it is never advisable to take the
missed dose of Actonel at the later part of the day. If you miss a
dose, entirely skip that dose and continue the next day.
Actonel Side Effects
Among the common side effects associated with the intake of
Actonel are:
- Abdominal pains and discomforts
- Rashes
- Belching
- Diarrhea

Less common side effects of taking Actonel are:
- Blurry vision
- Chest pains
- Constipation
- Dry eyes

- General body malaise

they become bothersome and would persist for over a long time,
immediately seek medical attention.
Actonel Drug Reactions
Actonel may not work well with:
- Antacids that are calcium based or containing calcium
- Mineral supplements that contain calcium
